18th Century Russian-Eastern European Powder Flask, Burled Walnut and Brass, c. 1750-1800

$125

An 18th-century black powder flask, likely Russian or Eastern European, constructed of burled walnut with brass fittings. The flask features a circular, flattened design with a central brass medallion displaying concentric circles and geometric engravings. The brass pouring spout is secured with an engraved brass fitting in a leaf pattern, with a small chain attachment.   The original spring-loaded measuring tube is missing, and the small chain attached is likely not be original to the piece.

This type of flask was used for carrying gunpowder, commonly associated with Cossack, Polish, and Austro-Hungarian military and hunting traditions. The construction method and materials are consistent with known examples from the late 18th century.

Burl wood diameter: 3.15 inches (8 cm)

Total length (spout to base plug): 3.94 inches (10 cm)

Weight: 3.56 oz (101 g)
