Rare 1939 SA Group Bayerische Ostmark “Sport und Wehrwettkämpfe” Third-Place Winner’s Porcelain Medallion

Rare 1939 SA Group Bayerische Ostmark “Sport und Wehrwettkämpfe” Third-Place Winner’s Porcelain Medallion

This rare and historically significant medallion was awarded in 1939 to the third-place winner (“Dem 3. Sieger”) at a regional competition organized by the SA (Sturmabteilung) in the Bayerische Ostmark region of Bavaria, Germany. The event, titled “Sport und Wehrwettkämpfe,” combined athletic contests and paramilitary training, promoting physical fitness and military readiness.

Material: High-quality porcelain, a unique and rare choice for award medallions of this era, adding to its collectability and historical value.
Obverse: Inscription “DEM 3. SIEGER” (To the 3rd Winner) surrounded by a detailed oak leaf wreath, symbolizing strength and victory.
Reverse: Central design features a sword overlaying a wreath with a swastika, framed by the text “SPORT-U. WEHRWETTKÄMPFE SA GRUPPE BAYERNOSTMARK 1939.”
Condition: Displays some natural age-related discoloration and minor wear, small chip, no cracks.

“Sport und Wehrwettkämpfe” (Sports and Defense Competitions) were organized to prepare SA members for paramilitary and military service, while fostering propaganda-driven values. The use of porcelain suggests this piece may have been produced for a more ceremonial or prestigious version of the competition.
