Austrian Landwehr Mountain Troops Pattern 1907 Saber • Short M1861 Infantry Sword
From 1907 to 1914, the original M1861 Infantry Officer’s sword was cut down to a Kurzer Säbel für Landwehr Gebirgstruppen Muster 1907 (short sword for Landwehr Mountain Troops pattern 1907 ). This was because full-sized sabers were found to be too cumbersome for troops being trained for mountain warfare, so shortened sabers were issued from 1907-14.
The chrome blade measures 21 inches long. The blade is stamped Weyersberg & Stamm Solingen at the shoulder.
The hilt measures about 5.25 inches. The grip is made of ray-skin but has some exposed wood. Triple wire binding is a little loose.
The full sword length about 26.26 inches, 27 inches in the scabbard.
The Austrians in WWI used this sword as a field sword. Please review pictures for condition, it looks like it is plating/tarnishing and some rust is present near the shoulder. If you would like to see any additional pictures, feel free to email us at info@collect-sell.com.
