Dutch .835 Silver Cow Creamer, Zaanlandse Zilversmederij, Netherlands, c.1953+

This is a Dutch silver cow creamer, made post-1953 by Zaanlandse Zilversmederij of Haarlem and Amsterdam. Crafted in .835 silver, it weighs 73 grams, stands 3 inches tall, and is 4 inches long. The design is both whimsical and practical: the cow’s tail serves as the handle, the mouth as the spout, and the hinged lid on its back opens for filling. Dutch law required each part of a silver piece to be hallmarked, so this creamer carries the sword with 835 mark on the underside, on the tail, and inside the lid — confirming all parts are silver. Cow creamers are a Dutch tradition dating back to the 18th century, and this mid-20th century example is a fine continuation of that heritage. It’s a collectible novelty piece that blends charm with craftsmanship.
