The American Watch Company (Waltham) and sales agents Robbins & Appleton promoted thier 10K case as being “made under Letters Patent” and that they “consist of two plates of gold, rolled together” with the exterior solid 14K and the interior solid 8K. This process is generally referred to as “double-stocked.” When these cases were first introduced, they were typically marked with an embossed “A.W.Co.” in an oval without any further indication as to gold content (distinguished from the 14K and 18K solid gold cases that are marked indicating the gold content).

Double Stock 14k/8k. Waltham’s 10k gold cases are typically marked with the embossed “A.W.Co.” inside an oval with no other indicators for gold content or “Waltham” inside a fancy banner.
